Big boys ...

Riley had his first dentist appointment at our new pediatric dentist. The staff there is really wonderful. We were a little worried about how he would do and tried not to get our hopes up too much. You see, although Riley is really great at brushing his teeth at home and letting mom and dad double check his work, he can be more than a bit shy and obstinate when it comes to letting a stranger with a mask on do the same. However, Miss Mary won him over by letting him check out all of the cool tools and play with them a little before they entered his mouth. Riley slowly, but surely, warmed up to her and by the end of the appointment was even giggling and laughing while she "tickled" his teeth with the polisher. He especially dug the idea of getting to wear the headphones while watching Monster's Inc. play on the TV that was attached to the ceiling. Yay for fun dentists and their assistants!!!!

Here's a few pics for documented proof, So proud of my big guy = )

As a special treat for being such a big boy, we headed to McDonald's for some fun and a snack before heading to pre-school. To our surprise, we were the only ones in the playland. That has never happened! Riley's exact words were, "Hey! Where's everybody at?" But, he quickly fell in love with the idea of having the whole place to himself. After going crazy on all of the toys, he decided to kick back and relish the moment with his jaguar friend = )

Going back to pre-school at noon turned out to be much harder than I had anticipated. Riley absolutely LOVES his school and has never once cried or been upset to go there or for me to leave. However, Riley and I had run a few more errands together that morning and we were both thoroghly enjoying our special morning together. It is not too often we get this type of one-on-one time and it was awesome. He kept trying to talk me into spending the whole day with him instead of going to work. I soooo wish I could've accomodated him, but, unfortunately, duty called. I believe he actually thought he had changed my mind, so when we pulled up to his school the tears immediately started to flow. Ugh! Talk about breaking momma's heart! I can fairly easily get past the frustration and tantrum type tears, but these were truly tears of a little boy whose heart was broken because he just wanted to spend the day with his mom. I finally got him calmed down and we headed inside, but once again as I started to leave he ran to me. Then the lip started to tremble. Then the rims of his eyes became red. And finally the big wet tears fell again. Thank goodness he has great teachers and Miss Chelsea swept him up in her arms and tried to comfort him. He eventually calmed down and proceeded to have a great day, but that picture stuck with me for the rest of mine. I will definitely be scheduling a full Riley & mommy day soon!
On a more positive note, here's one of the many pictures of the boys playing with one of the train sets they got for Christmas. They have another smaller one that they received from Uncle Jamie and Aunt Rhonda that they play with quite a bit and love. They have so much fun setting up the tracks in different configurations and there's enough pieces that they can each do their own, which is soooo nice. This big one they got from my grandma, however, has intimidated me a little bit because of its size and intricacy with the set up, thus it had not been played with too much. Thankfully, their daddy is so good at getting things put together and up and running so the boys can enjoy this big gift. They absolutely love the remote control feature and all of the sounds it makes. All Aboard! Chooo, chooooo! So much fun!!!
